Monitor lizards are protected under Schedule I part II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

 

Thousands of Monitor Lizards killed in Goa for its skin. The skin is used to make the traditional instrument called 'GHUMAT' in Goa.

We have to stop killing this reptile because his Major role in the environment to keep control on - Snakes, Rodents & Insects.

Catching, killing and selling frogs or serving

 

Frog meat in eating places contravenes the provisions of the Act, and attracts stringent punishment with fine up to Rs. 25,000 and imprisonment.

 

Monsoon is the mating, breeding season of frogs and during this time they become victim of their greatest predator - 'Human Beings'.

 

Killing the frogs for their meat is an ecological crime against the food chain, affecting the ecological balance of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Frogs mainly feed on insects and due to this specialized habits, insects responsible for various diseases like malaria, filaria, encephalitis, etc. are brought under control. Consumption of frogs over a period of time could trigger paralytic strokes, cancer and kidney failure.
